Barrel Finishing in Scotch Whisky
The Winery Bar | 3:30–4:30pm
Presenter: Dan Dufek – Beverage Development Specialist, Breakthru Beverage
There are many ways that Scotch whisky acquires its flavor. Between fermentation, distillation, water source, and many other factors, there can be a lot to learn. One of the most profound and immediately apparent sources of flavor is the type of barrel in which it is aged. Barrel options for Scotch include Sherry, Port, Rum, and Bourbon, among others, and “finishing” a Scotch in a secondary type of barrel has become increasingly popular over the past two decades. The flavor impact made by these barrel choices can be dramatic and delicious. Join Dan Dufek, Beverage Specialist at Breakthru Beverage, as he shares his knowledge and passion for Scotch and discusses the characteristics of different barrel types and how they can transform a whisky. Sample unique offerings from Balvenie and Glenfiddich each with a different barrel selected for aging.
$35 – Price includes tax and service fee.
